The term Australian Eastern Time (AET) is often used to denote the local time in areas observing either Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) or Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).

In other words, in locations observing Daylight Saving Time (DST) during part of the year, Australian Eastern Time is not static but switches between AEST and AEDT.

What Is Australian Eastern Time?

Australian Eastern Time (AET) is the easternmost time zone in Australia. It is used in five Australian states and territories: Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, and Queensland.

Australian Eastern Time shares a border with Australian Central Time (ACT) in the west.

What Does AET Time Zone Mean?

Unlike other time zone denominations, which have a fixed time, Australian Eastern Time refers to a geographical area where the time changes twice yearly as Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins and ends. Australian Eastern Standard Time is UTC+10, while Australian Eastern Daylight Time is UTC+11.

Only two of these generic time zones in Australia include standard and daylight time: Australian Eastern Time (AET) and Australian Central Time (ACT). The country has a complex set of time zones, some of which have an unusual UTC offset.

Converting AET to Other Australian Time Zones

Australian Eastern Time (AET) is 30 minutes ahead of Australian Central Time (ACT).
To convert AET to ACT, subtract half an hour.
